The Inaugural Limerick Student Poker Championship comes to Doyle’s

This April, Doyle’s Poker Club is proud to launch something completely new, the first-ever Limerick Student Poker Championship.

We’ve wanted to run a dedicated student championship for a long time, and we’re genuinely delighted to finally make it happen. This is the beginning of what we hope will become a prestigious annual event on the local poker calendar.

A championship, not just a game

Poker has always had a strong student following, and for good reason. It rewards patience, discipline, and decision-making under pressure - skills that translate far beyond the table.

The Limerick Student Poker Championship is about giving student players a proper stage:

  • a well-structured event

  • a serious title to play for

  • a chance to say “I won the Limerick Student Championship”

That’s something worth having on your poker CV!

Event details

The inaugural championship takes place on:

Monday, April 6th
6pm start

Tournament structure:

  • €100 freezeout

  • 50,000 starting stack

  • 20-minute levels

  • Late registration until 8:30pm

  • Valid student ID required

This structure is designed to reward good play while keeping the night accessible for students balancing lectures, exams, and part-time work.

Sit & Go satellites - get in for €20

To make the championship as accessible as possible, we’re running €20 Sit & Go satellite tournaments in the build-up to the event.

These feeders give students the chance to win their seat at a significant discount and add an extra layer of excitement in the weeks leading up to the main event.

Satellite dates:

  • Monday, March 23rd

  • Monday, March 30th

€20 entry. Same location, same atmosphere, and a chance to book your seat in the championship.

A trophy and a tradition

The winner of the Limerick Student Poker Championship won’t just take home the bragging rights. They’ll also receive the championship trophy, marking their place as the first ever champion.

From our side, the intention is clear - this is year one. We want this to grow into a recognised, respected annual event, something students look forward to and talk about long after they’ve graduated.

We’re delighted to host it

Doyle’s has always been about building a poker community, not just running games. Hosting the Limerick Student Poker Championship feels like a natural extension of that - supporting new players, encouraging competitive and respectful poker, and creating events with real meaning.

If you’re a student in Limerick who loves the game, or wants to test yourself in a proper tournament setting, we’d love to see you at the tables this April.

Full details are on the poster above, also available on the Special Events page.
